Diaspora on Decks: How Music Moves Migrant Communities

Part of Kumain Ka Na? Diaspora on Decks explores how music acts as a connective thread across cultures, identities, and borders.

Opening remarks by Charmaine Taus, co-founder of sige!, grounded the gathering in multiple layers of meaning: honoring the significance of Independence Day, acknowledging the cultural insights of the Kumain Ka Na? exhibit, and paying tribute to lives lost in the recent tragedy in Graz. A moment of silence was held in respect, setting a solemn yet purposeful tone for the evening.

Angela Charina Amsler, co-founder of synccity records (CH) and a Filipino-Swiss storyteller deeply engaged in themes of identity and sound, moderated the dialogue.

Positioned as a space for community, creativity, and resistance, the event centered around a compelling panel discussion inviting reflection on the power of music as both an archive and a lifeline for migrant communities—an expression of longing, belonging, and becoming.
